We were approached to create the brand identity for The SOL Studio located in Harlem, NYC. Developed as a premier creative suite for artist, photographers and other creative talent, as well as a blank canvas that event, meeting and party planners can tailor to their vision and transform to meet their event needs.

The SOL Studio

In our initial discovery meeting, the stakeholders explained that is was important that the identity embody the roots of the community, it's unique history as well as it's ever evolving landscape and inhabitants. We discussed The Sol Studio's role as a creative studio space to engage the talent of the Harlem community, that specializes in capturing, editing, distributing, displaying, and monetizing art, photography and digital video content. Inspired by affirming legacy of James Van Der Zee, who shaped the images of a people during the Harlem Renaissance, The Sol Studio enables Harlem Renaissance 2.0 creators and storytellers to leverage broadband and social media to create and instantaneously share culturally transformative images worldwide or across town.

Past and Future

We recognized that it was just as important to incorporate the history of Harlem as well as appeal to the sophistication, technological prowess and innovation of the studio's artists and visitors. Harlem indeed has a rich cultural history and our goal was to incorporate this while suggesting it's positive impact on the future of the neighborhood by harnessing and nurturing the creativity of it's inhabitants.

The Result

We created a vast array of storyboards, style boards, logo variations and site concepts. We developed a unified brand and designed a site interface that could accommodate all of the features the studio had to offer. The branding was applied to promotional material, website and to the studio located in Harlem.
